| CUESTA ARRIBA are Pablo Yanis (bandoneon),
Mariano Gil (guitar) and Juan Fracchi (double bass), an Argentinian tango
band started in December of 2001. Our repertoire covers classics of traditional and modern tango with highlights such as Sur, Libertango, El Choclo, Taconeando, A Evaristo Carriego, La Cumparsita, Adios Nonino and Mi Refugio. Vals and milonga sounds also have their place in the repertoire in Romance de Barrio, Un Placer, La Trampera and Milonga del Angel amongst other pieces. CUESTA ARRIBA recorded J.C. Cobian´s classic Mi Refugio for the soundtrack of the short film Bar Imperial produced by the National University of Cinematography in Argentina. In 2003 we did our first European tour. On our second tour, during the summer of 2004, we performed at the milongas (tango clubs) “Los chicos del Tango” (Brescia, Italy), “Libertango” (Malmo,Sweden), “Tango Malevaje”(Aarhus, Denmark) and at the following venues throughout Europe: Bar Rossini (Trento, Italy) Bluemonk, Libreria Santo Domingo, El Local, Libreria Excellence, La Nueva Ola (Barcelona, Spain) Museo Delso, D´Oro Café (Alicante, Spain) In Argentina we have played in many shows and venues both in Buenos Aires and around the country. A short list includes: Teatro del Mar, Teatro de la Torre, Pinamar. Meeting of Native Cultures, National Congress, Buenos Aires. Cuero Violento, music and poetry, La Forja, Buenos Aires. Espacio de Decir, poetry performance, La Peña del Colorado, Buenos Aires. Alberdi Library, Lanus. We have also participated in the following shows: Fabrica Ciudad Cultural, show with the Buenos Aires Negro band. La Trastienda de Mandinga, Flores en la Basura, La Brujula que Marca el Sur and Los Suburbios de la Buena Suerte all with the poet Guillermo Silva. Buenos Aires Magica y Rebelde, with the poet Jorge Falcone. Ensemble of lyrics and music at the presentation of the book “Ithaka, Lirica de Emergencia.- |
